In 1986 Didier Lefevre accompanied Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) Doctors without Borders into Afghanistan for 3 months.  The result is a coffee table size book which is part photography and part graphic novel.  It explores the difficulties of getting into Afghanistan with donkeys and horses, the traditions of this culture which must be adhered to to fit in and no pictures of any combat.  It’s the story of those who live on the cusp of war and basic survival.  Lefevre returned many times after this trip to record the stories of those he met until his untimely death due to a heart attack in 2007.  LA Carlson
