The word inspire was first used in the 14th century and means to incite, motivate, or influence.  Writers are always looking for ways to be inspired because writing is a solitary experience.  Sophie Beck started a literary magazine from scratch while she was pregnant with her second child and had a one year old on her heels.  Her mantra was “It’s a terrible idea, let’s get started.”  The Normal School was born during a time when reading is on the decline and literary journals do not sell.  I’m inspired to keep writing.        LA Carlson
